Is It Worth Restringing Blinds?

Restringing blinds is generally worth it for high-quality, custom, or expensive blinds. A local shop could tackle this generally easy and affordable process for you. However, if your home is equipped with cheap or off-the-shelf blinds, you may not be able to justify the labor costs.

Stick with us to learn more. The experienced team at Alachua Blinds & More delves into this topic to help you save both time and money. We explain when it makes more sense to replace your blinds and when to restring.

When Is It a Good Idea to Restore Your Blinds?

Restringing your blinds is worth it in a variety of circumstances. It is a cost-effective choice for high-quality, custom, or expensive blinds, often saving up to 60 percent or more compared to replacing them. So, if you notice fraying or lifted cords, your first instinct is probably to have it repaired, and you may be right. If the slats, fabric, and headrail are still in good condition, consider calling our showroom for a quote. However, restringing is best when the blinds are less than eight years old and have minor damage, as manufacturers now design quality blinds with repair in mind.

When Is Replacing Your Blinds More Cost-Effective Than Restringing?

There are a few occasions when replacing your blinds is a better choice than restringing. When repair costs exceed 50 percent of the price of new blinds, which are mass-produced, or box store quality, we recommend purchasing a new set, as inexpensive, pre-fabricated blinds are rarely made to be repaired.

When your blinds are more than 10 years old, or the headrail or slats are damaged, replacing them is generally more practical than spending your hard-earned money on labor-intensive repairs, too. Sun damage is also an important factor here in Florida. If the fabric is brittle, sun-rotted, or severely faded, restringing will not fix the poor condition of the material.
